WALSH's 1997 BRADFORD DUKES RACE JACKET
Following
a practice session David Walsh reluctantly
withdrew from Garry's Benefit after being pencilled in to ride
during the Garry Stead Grand Prix at Owlerton on Thursday 23rd
August.
However, in support of Garry, and as a contribution to the
collective efforts at raising funds to help with his rehabilitation,
David’s 1997 Bradford Dukes race jacket was auctioned on eBay
to coincide with Garry’s benefit night.
The auction ended the following evening, Friday 24th August
with £92 being the winning bid, all the proceeds
were donated to the “Garry Stead Benefit Fund.”
Garry was a member of the Bradford team in 1997, the year the Dukes
won the inaugural Elite League Championship.
Now,
the tenth anniversary of that successful campaign and, sadly, the
closure of Bradford Speedway, all fans can be confident
that the jacket represents a collectable item of speedway
memorabilia.
Former
Bradford supporters will recall the Dukes sported differently
coloured body jackets for home and away meetings in 1997. The one
David auctioned was used for home meetings at Odsal and was race
jacket number 2.
We would like to thank David
for his generosity and of course the winning bidder.
